Plastic Bottle With Pump Mechanism Tops

Question:

I have a question about plastic bottle tops. I've been told to put the bottle tops back on my plastic bottles because it helps the object keep its shape for Waste Management's sorting machinery. I get that, but what about the plastic soap bottle that has a pump as its screw top? It's not all plastic. There is a spring mechanism that's part of it. Should I leave that on or take it off before putting it in my recycling bin?

Caps with pump mechanisms, such as the one you describe, should be removed and discarded.
