Half & Half Carton

Preview

Question:

Hello again . . . I’ve re-read the response you sent me on Monday (about Nutter Butter cookie tray) to my first question, but what about this half & half carton? Is it recyclable? There is a recycling triangle, but there is no number. And when I go to the how2recycle.info website referenced next to the recycling triangle on the carton, it mostly says that it depends on our municipality’s waste hauler agreement. So, can I toss this carton into my recycling cart after I rinse it out?

City of Elgin’s Original Answer:

I believe cartons can be recycled, but have contacted Waste Management to double check. I will get back to you as soon as I get confirmation.

Kane County recently released its Green Guide 2024, that maybe worth reviewing if you haven’t already. Here is that link: https://www.kanecountyil.gov/Recycling/Documents/2024GreenGuideWeb.pdf.

City of Elgin’s Follow-up Answer:

Aseptic cartons like the ones used for milk or orange juice are acceptable for recycling curbside.  They end up in the mixed paper.

Elgin Watchman clarification:

If you don’t know what “aseptic cartons” are, then you aren’t alone. We weren’t sure either, so we did a little research for you:
