Cat Food Can

Question:

Is a cat food can too small for WM's waste sorting machines? I was told there is a minimum size for items going into my recycling bin. What about the cat food can lid? Can I recycle the lid, too? Or does that need to go into the trash because WM's sorting machines cannot deal with things of that size?

City of Elgin’s Answer:

No, a small can of cat food can be recovered. Yes, the lid from a cat food can will also be recovered. The size of the item being recycled does not matter. However, Waste Management (WM) asks residents to focus on recycling bottles, cans, paper, and cardboard for curbside pickup.
